Bio

Dr. Milbrath is an interdisciplinary researcher and Extension specialist focusing on the health of honey bees and other pollinators. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, and is a faculty member of the Comparative Medicine and Integrated Biology Program. She teaches the honey bee medicine clerkship (LCS 610) at the College of Veterinary Medicine, and has a 45% Extension appointment working with beekeepers, growers, and individuals involved in land restoration.

Research

Dr. Milbrath's primary research focus is infectious diseases in honey bees, specifically European foulbrood, caused by the pathogen Melissococcus plutonius, and her lab has projects addressing all aspects of this disease from disease ecology to prevention and treatment. She also works on a variety of projects relating to the varroa mite, including the evaluation of multiple treatment regimens.
